British Council Sierra Leone office picture

Since its establishment in 1943, the British Council in Sierra Leone have delivered significant impact through its programmes with many success stories and many more memories.

Amid the COVID -19 crisis, we have suffered large financial losses due to the pandemic and consequently we had to make the decision of closing our physical location in Free Town.

Though the physical office is closing, not all British Council activities are ending. We will continue to deliver exam operations in Freetown for the people of Sierra Leone and still be open to deliver partner-funded work where this aligns with key strategic priorities.

We thank our partners, programme beneficiaries, customers and stakeholders who have supported and worked with us for over 80 years. We are proud of the impact we have collectively achieved through our work across sectors.

The good news is that we will continue to deliver exams through partner locations in Sierra Leone. Our online presence in Sierra Leone will not be affected by this closure, we will remain engaged virtually with the community and accessible through the below channels. For more information, like where to book exams, read our frequently asked questions or reach out to the team via the following channels:

E-mail - enquiry@sl.britishcouncil.org; WhatsApp +232 72949449. Facebook – British Council Sierra Leone and on Twitter -  slBritish.

For test-takers expecting physical copies of the Test Report Form (TRF) we will be dispatching these through our courier partners to test takers’ listed physical addresses.

Prospective test-takers can book and pay for Standard IELTS tests through this portal or here for IELTS for UKVI. We will also continue to support activities in Sierra Leone remotely from the West Africa cluster operations and continue to facilitate connections between the UK and Sierra Leone in education like our annual participation at the Education World Forum (EWF) and our work in girls’ education and other related opportunities where partner funding is available.

We would like to reassure you we remain committed to our mission, and we will make every effort to ensure these changes do not impact our current obligations.

Sean Harris

Business Development Manager and Country Lead – Ghana, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
